Position Summary

eX2 Technology is searching for an experienced Electronics Field Technician to join its team in Omaha, NE or Des Moines, IA. This person will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of field electronics for intelligent transportation systems (ITS).

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of duties installing and maintaining IP cameras, in-ground sensors, low-power wireless sensor networks, wireless and wired local area network (LAN) equipment, power supplies and cellular communication devices
  • Completes site installation activities including:
    • Mounting equipment cabinets, solar panels and electronic devices on poles
    • Installing in-pavement detection sensors, including concrete core drilling
  • Interprets blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams for proper installation and diagnosing post-installation system issues
  • Applies the standards, principles and practices of the National Electrical Code
  • Tests ITS equipment using computer-based software and a variety of testing devices such as multimeters
  • Performs onsite acceptance test procedures for new system installations and existing system modifications
  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots and repairs a variety of intelligent transportation systems equipment and network infrastructure
  • Installs and properly terminates copper and fiber optic communications media according to industry standards and best practices
  • Repairs copper wire, fiber optic and wireless communication systems relating to intelligent transportation systems equipment
  • Responds to critical site outages in the field by troubleshooting electronic system malfunctions, replacing faulty parts and reconstructing damaged equipment
  • Documents all work performed including cause of problem, corrective measures taken, replacement parts used, etc. using standard Microsoft office programs
  • Maintenance of spare equipment and parts including inventory management and documentation
  • Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials and equipment

Duties & Skills

  • Knowledge of electronics and electrical wiring theory, principles and practices
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic repair practices
  • Knowledge of electronic and electrical safety standards and the National Electric Code
  • Basic understanding of communications and control protocols including TCP/IP and Modbus protocol
  • Knowledge of copper and fiber optic installation standards and best practices for inside and outside plant applications
  • Ability to read schematics, blue prints and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to use a multimeter to measure resistance, current and voltage
  • Ability to use a personal computer to operate software applications
  • Ability to perform aerial vehicle operations
  • Ability to use hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of detecting and locating underground utilities
  • Must be able to multitask, problem solve and implement innovative processes within a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to effectively report and document technical information
  • Ability to effectively manage tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to communicate and interact with colleagues in a self-managed team structure

Qualification & Education

The ideal candidate will have six (6) years of ITS or physical security industry. Must possess in-depth knowledge of electronic systems installation and maintenance practices with basic understanding of applications and networking. An associate’s degree in electronics, electrical system or related field is desired. An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

Other Requirements

The incumbent will be provided with a service truck, towable lift and hand/power tools required to perform the work. The incumbent will be required to sit; use hand and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear regularly while performing the duties of this job. The incumbent will be required to walk daily on construction sites in rough terrain and climb ladders and facilities under construction.  The incumbent will be required to stand for long periods of time on occasion.  The incumbent may be required to lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. with assistance. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent may work at construction sites, where there is moderate to occasional great noise levels.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret engineering and construction drawings and specifications, technical equipment installation manuals and other documents. Communicates effectively in both oral and written English technical language, both in interpreting requirements and providing reports and mentoring. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and pass a mandatory drug test.
