Position Summary

eX2 Technology is searching for an ambitious individual who is an experienced GIS Technician that will prepare Outside Plant (OSP)/telecommunications drawings for fiber construction and permit packages.  The GIS Technician will be skilled in utilizing GIS software to draft clear, detailed and complete drawings with accurate detail that incorporates design inputs, sketches, field notes and permitting ordinances. Must be able to comprehend, interpret and render verbal inputs from the field teams as required. A solid understanding and experience working in coordinate systems is desirable.  Any knowledge and experience of other drafting programs is a plus. Experience in software such as ArcGIS/FM, 3GISLive, QGIS and/or other GIS Fiber Management software is preferred. The GIS Technician must be able to utilize skills and experience to perform data analysis, queries and management and produce reports for projects. Roles & Responsibilities

  • Create new base maps and post existing system maps from available records.
  • Assist with the revision/acceptance of internal GIS work requests.
  • Coordinate with other technicians and analysts in various data development, update and project support initiatives.
  • Complete drawings with accurate detail that incorporates permitting ordinances, design inputs, sketches and field notes.
  • Create drawings packages to be used for construction or permit applications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in engineering, permitting and construction processes.
  • Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations, including OSHA, FCC, NESC and NEC, etc. as well as following procedures as outlined in the Installation, Technical, Operations and Safety Manual and Employee Handbook).
  • Work with management to schedule work and manage workload to meet customer and Company expectations.
  • Other duties as defined.

Duties & Skills

  • Expertise using GIS software products, especially ArcMap and/or QGIS
  • Working knowledge of geospatial coordinate systems
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, MS Project
  • Working knowledge of Google Earth, Google Maps and similar

Qualification & Education

An Associate’s Degree in Drafting and Design Technology is desired. The ideal candidate should have 3-5 years of experience in OSP design or civil engineering design using GIS software.

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; use hand and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The incumbent is required to walk daily on construction sites in rough terrain, and climb ladders and facilities under construction.  The incumbent is occasionally required to stand for long periods of time.  The incumbent may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. And occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent may split time between work in a semi-quiet office environment and on customer sites, where there is moderate to occasional great noise levels. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering and construction drawings and specifications, and other documents.  Communicates effectively in both oral and written English technical language, both in interpreting requirements and providing reports and mentoring.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. The incumbent must have a valid driver’s license and pass a mandatory drug test.
