Engineering Manager - Proposals

Position Summary

eX² Technology is searching for an ambitious individual who is highly experienced in the engineering functions of technical projects. The primary focus of this position is to provide leadership by example and management to the proposal engineering department for the purpose of providing design engineering, estimating and planning for proposal responses. The Proposal Engineering Manager will work closely with sales engineers, sales staff, estimators and proposals department to ensure eX²’s proposal success. The position manages engineers who develops proposal solutions and cost estimates in response to requests for proposals (RFPs). This individual must bring a strong verifiable track record of performing engineering functions on complex technical projects and working with subcontractors and vendors. We believe that the Project Development team has a special role to play inside our organization. The success of eX² Technology hinges on our ability to write winning, compliant and innovative proposals and deliver them to our customers in a timely fashion.  The selected candidate is expected to think, make decisions, execute their tasks and take 100% responsibility for their performance and that of their direct reports.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage the proposal engineering team to provide sales, proposal and team support.

  • Complete system designs, estimates, technical writing and cost reviews for telecommunications and critical infrastructure proposal responses.

  • Complete and review cost estimates.

  • Complete and review drawing takeoffs.

  • Provide presentations to potential customers in support of sales and project development teams.

  • Manage vendor relationships for existing and potential vendors.

  • Recruit and develop new employees.

  • Other duties as defined.

Skills & Experience

  • Thorough knowledge of fiber optics and telecommunications systems (Ethernet, DWDM, FTTH, SONET, etc.).

  • Thorough knowledge of physical security systems and solutions (Video, Access, IDS, Lighting, Fencing, Barriers, etc.).

  • Knowledge of telecommunications inside plant infrastructure design.

  • Must have demonstrated excellent people skills.

  • Must have demonstrated excellent communications skills (written and verbal).

  • Must have demonstrated excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented.

  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft office products, including MS Visio, MS Project, databases and AutoCAD.

Qualification & Education

  • The ideal candidate will have experience managing engineering teams that capture new business in the telecommunications and critical infrastructure industry.

  • BSEE or similar degree and 10 plus years’ experience in the industry is preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; use hand and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The incumbent is required to walk daily on construction sites in rough terrain, and climb ladders and facilities under construction.  The incumbent is occasionally required to stand for long periods of time.  The incumbent may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. And occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent may split time between work in a semi-quiet office environment and on customer sites, where there is moderate to occasional great noise levels.

Language Skills & Reasoning Ability

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering and construction drawings and specifications, common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and other documents.  Communicates effectively in both oral and written English technical language, both in interpreting requirements and providing reports and mentoring. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
