Estimating Engineer - Project Development
eX² Technology is searching for a detail oriented Estimating Engineer who is experienced in telecommunications related projects. This individual will develop solutions, cost estimates and project schedules in response to requests for proposals (RFPs). The role will work closely with the sales staff and the other individuals within the proposal development department. This position does not have any direct reports. For consideration, you must have a record of inside plant and/or outside plant project deployment on fiber-optic project deployments and working with trade subcontractors and material vendors. The selected candidate is expected to think, make decisions, execute their tasks and take 100% responsibility for their performance.

Roles & Responsibilities
Complete system designs, estimates, technical writing and cost reviews for telecommunications and critical infrastructure proposal responses.
Review of bid and proposal documents.
Design conceptual solutions to use in preparing estimates.
Define quantity take-offs.
Compile a Bill of Materials (BOM).
Develop project schedules.
Site visits and pre-bid meetings.
Identify potential subcontractors.
Prepare requests for quote documents for potential subcontractors.
Prepare and review project cost estimates using a provided template.
Deliver technical writing relating to the solutions developed.
Schedule and lead cost reviews.
Provide technical presentations to potential customers in support of sales efforts.
Duties & Skills
Knowledge of fiber optics and telecommunications systems (Ethernet, DMVM, FTTH, SONET, etc.).
Knowledge of telecommunications outside and inside plant infrastructure design.
Must have demonstrated excellent people skills.
Must have demonstrated excellent communications skills (written and verbal).
Must have demonstrated excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented.
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft office products, including MS Visio, MS Project, databases and AutoCAD.
High-level Microsoft Excel skills.
Qualification & Education
The ideal candidate would have telecommunications related field engineering experience and telecommunications project deployment experience.
A bachelor’s degree and 4 years’ experience in the telecommunications or fiber-optic network industry is preferred, but not required.
While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; use hand and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The incumbent is required to walk on potential construction sites in rough terrain, and climb ladders and facilities under construction. The incumbent is occasionally required to stand for long periods of time. The incumbent may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent may split time between work in a semi-quiet office environment and on customer sites, where there is moderate to occasional great noise levels.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering and construction drawings and specifications, common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and other documents. Communicates effectively in both oral and written English technical language, both in interpreting requirements.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
