ITS Inspector - Elkhart, IN

Position Summary

eX² Technology is searching for an experienced Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Inspector to join its team in the Northern Indiana area. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting ITS construction work (i.e. ITS device foundation installation, erection of steel structures, and ITS low-voltage and electrical installation) to ensure conformance with the plans as well as specifications, National Electrical Code and other applicable manuals. The candidate will be responsible for escalating deficiencies to the assigned Project Manager.

eX² Technology’s success hinges on its ability to deliver on contractual commitments to its customers. The selected candidate must bring a strong, verifiable track record of inspecting, installing or maintaining ITS and network infrastructure.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Coordinates directly with contractors and other field inspection staff to ensure all project activities are monitored

  • Maintains daily project log and keeps various project records/reports

  • Ensures materials delivered to project site meet specifications and are placed in accordance with standard specification

  • Performs the inspection of various ITS structure construction

  • Performs the inspection of various ITS device installations

  • Inspects completed items and determines contract pay quantities

  • Performs basic contract administrative functions for ITS projects

  • Performs materials sampling and testing

  • Works closely with the Project Manager to ensure client satisfaction

  • Reads and comprehends contract documents

  • Interprets blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams for proper installation

  • Participates in the testing of ITS equipment using computer-based software and a variety of testing applications

  • Observes and ensures onsite system acceptance test procedures are executed in accordance with plans

  • Documents installation and testing failures including cause of problem, corrective measures taken, replacement parts used, etc. using standard Microsoft Office programs

  • Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials and equipment

Skills & Experience

  • ­Knowledge of concrete testing procedures

  • Knowledge of electronics and electrical wiring theory, principles and practices

  • Knowledge of electronic and electrical safety standards and National Electric Code

  • Knowledge of copper and fiber optic installation standards and best practices for outside plant applications

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret engineering and construction drawings and specifications, technical equipment installation manuals and other documents

  • Must be able to multitask, problem solve and implement innovative processes within a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to effectively report and document technical information

  • Ability to effectively manage tasks and deadlines

  • Ability to communicate and interact with colleagues in a self-managed team structure

Qualification & Education

  • The ideal candidate should have six (6) years of ITS or construction industry experience. A bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management is desired. An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

Physical Demands

The incumbent will be required to sit; use hand and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear regularly while performing the duties of this job. The incumbent will be required to walk daily on construction sites in rough terrain and climb ladders and facilities under construction.  The incumbent will be required to stand for long periods of time on occasion.  The incumbent may be required to lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. with assistance. Work environment

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent may work at construction sites, where there is moderate to occasional great noise levels.
