Pattern Energy’s SunZia Wind and Transmission projects combine to create the largest clean energy infrastructure project in U.S. history. In addition to harnessing over 3,500 MW of renewable energy and delivering an expected $20.5 billion in economic impact across New Mexico and Arizona, the project will serve to open new broadband corridors in Desert Southwest communities through dark fiber lease opportunities.

As SunZia’s exclusive commercialization partner, eX² Technology is marketing more than 500 miles of dark fiber optic cable currently under construction between Albuquerque and Phoenix. With anticipated completion in late 2025, the fiber optic backbone offers carriers, service providers, hyperscalers and more a better way of adding diversity and redundancy to their existing network routes and establishing alternative pathways to key New Mexico and Arizona city center markets than building themselves.

The network backbone will pass numerous communities within 40 miles of the infrastructure, including Tucson, Las Cruces and Sierra Vista, just to name a few. It is a connectivity enabler providing the ability to build network laterals and expand broadband services to underserved areas in the Desert Southwest.
